A data-driven statistical learning framework on streaming data

My research lies at the intersection of statistics, biostatistics, machine learning, and public health. My main field of interest is the development of statistical sketching and sampling methods for large-scale streaming dependent data. The methods I have developed have been applied to various fields, ranging from streaming online learning and sampling to spatial pattern reconstruction with sketching and decentralized computing. I collaborate with researchers from several disciplines outside of statistics, including nursing science, psychology, computer science, geophysics, electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical engineering, to tackle data science problems

  • Randomized sketching and sampling
  • Large-scale data normalization
  • Statistical learning algorithms for Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Transfer learning in Smart Manufacturing
  • Data fusion, sample selection and streaming sensor data modeling
  • Technology-based adaptive interventions in Mobile Health
  • Simultaneously features selection and sample size reduction

news

Aug 3, 2023 I am pleased to announce that I will be giving a research talk at the 6th International Conference on Econometrics and Statistics (EcoSta 2023) Hybrid Conference, to be held at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan on August 3, 2023. The presentation will cover my paper entitled “Optimal transport-based domain adaptation for sensor data with application in smart manufacturing”, which proposes a novel approach for domain adaptation of sensor data using optimal transport.
Apr 25, 2023 I am excited to announce that I have been awarded a collaborative grant from the National Science Foundation as a co-investigator, led by Principal Investigator Gregory Welch, for the “Virtual Experience Research Accelerator (VERA)” project. The VERA project aims to develop a human-machine system for conducting human subjects research related to extended reality (XR), including Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. To learn more about VERA, please visit their website at https://sreal.ucf.edu/vera/.
Mar 10, 2023 Congratulations are in order for my graduate student, Lulu Chen, for being awarded second place in the Additional Financial Data Analytics Competition. This is a great achievement for Lulu and reflects her hard work and dedication to her studies. Well done, Lulu!
Jan 1, 2023 Receive a United Negro College Fund (UNCF) leveraging big data grant, aiming to improve the education and workforce outcomes of African American and Hispanic/Latino students at HBCUs and HSIs.
Sep 26, 2022 Awarded a grant R01 from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities at the National Institutes of Health as co-I, led by PI Thiamwong: “Optimizing a technology-based body and mind intervention to prevent falls and reduce health disparities in low-income populations”.
